Basketball shoes have gone a long way since the days when a basketball player needed just a simple pair of sneakers. Pair of basketball shoes offers luxury, symbolized style and comfort also. The basketball shoes are meant especially for basketball with air or gel underneath them to help lessen the impact of constant jumping or running. Today, their design has been very improved to help and support a player’s ankles and soles. Converse is one of the first brands who ruled the roost with Magic, Erving, Bird and even Michael Jordan was spotted with Converse sneakers on his feet. Few years later, Jordan started his partnership with the Nike brand. As nowadays the creativity has declined among basketball shoe manufacturers, they still find a way to “remake” some awesome shoes from the past in retro style or with new colors. BUT, everything in life comes with a price and you cannot even imagine how much the most expensive basketball shoes in the world cost. I will clear you that with presenting the list of the most expensive basketball shoes ever.
Nike Air Zoom Kobe 1 – $29.999
A special edition shoes by Nike were released dedicated to one of the best basketball players Kobe Bryant in 4 different versions. Each different version has a different city draw on the shoes and the cities are Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Texas. Together with a pair of this shoes you get very beautiful wooden box signed by Bryant. The sad part for this shoes is that only 25 pairs of these shoes were ever made with promise from Nike that they will give away 10% of the sale price to charity.
Air Jordan I – $25,000
One of the most expensive basketball shoes are the first pairs of Jordan’s – Air Jordan I. Jordan and Nike were partners through Jordan’s career and this shoes has released only 12 pairs that are signed personally by Michael Jordan with water-resistant marker. The shoes had two versions: the original had a red\black design that was banned by the NBA because the rules state shoes must have white on them. Despite that rules, he insisted to play with those sneakers and he got fined with $5,000 each game he’d play with them. Their price says all: $25,000 a pair – priceless.
Nike Air Mag – $12,000
A pair of futuristic sneakers was sported in the movie “Back to the Future” from 1989. Michael J. Fox was with a pair of Nike Air Mag and only 20 pairs were made. The price for this rare pair of shoes is $12,000 without including the jacket from the movie, but hand-signed by Michael J. Fox.
Air Jordan V – $10,000
One of the most unique pair of shoes with unique features such as reflective tongue, clear rubber soles and convenient strap lock. Jordan wore the only pair of Air Jordan V during games, a rare black and silver metal design with 23 at the back and was never sold in stores anywhere. I don’t know how much models there are produced, but you can find one in some shoe-collector for $10,000.
