Top 6 most overrated video games

Most overrated video games of all time

This topic is very controversial for big fans of video games, but there are plenty of overrated video games that made us sick. I know that none of these games in this list are explicitly bad, but they were all relentlessly over-hyped by games journalists and fanboys alike. The over-hyping increases our expectations for the upcoming games and when the long-awaited game finally comes out, we might disappoint dramatically.

Some of us surely love these games, but it’s time to show some games which have been enormously overrated and for some reason praised as among the greats. These games were either massively overrated when they came out or not really as good as we remember them. Be aware that we acknowledge that most of these games, if not all, are actually good.

Gears of War

Gears of War

Gears of War

The biggest selling of GoW for Xbox 360 by its release was Gears of War. But, is the game that good? It has best graphics for Xbox 360 and the online play was very good indeed. The perspective is a little confusing, you either play from first person perspective or let the game’s character roam free. But the third person perspective and grim color scheme is a disaster. The campaign mode was boring and the levels also, all you have to do is follow a set path while killing enemies on the way, nothing else. Because of the simple game play, you could find yourself very bored quickly and the game is definitely not good as the Xbox 360 fans believe.

Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV

Grand Theft Auto IV

Rockstar has millions of fans around the world that love GTA IV, but it is one of the most overrated games of the decade. Looking of every aspect, the game is undoubtedly a great game, but is not that revolutionary slice of perfection as many critics claimed. For every moment of brilliance, GTA IV throws up something boring to counter it – from the baffling omission of ambulance missions to the terminally dull man-dates. Some of the new features, like watching TV are nothing but waste of time. Good characterization aside, the game is not that close to perfect, something which many gaming press failed to notice.

Halo

Halo

Halo

Halo is a first-person shooter game with new redeeming qualities and the whole Halo series are not as good as game-journalists say. A cliché-filled and unoriginal single-player campaign, mediocre graphics and a tired an uninspiring set of multiplayer options, what is interesting here? Halo has also one of the worst level designs, as every room looks exactly the same and not to mention the most irritating bad guys in video game history. The game has spawned a plethora of sequels and has legions of fans, but don’t you agree that is overrated?

Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Gaiden

The first few games of the series were really overrated, but for the latest one (Ninja Gaiden 3) I have nothing to say but praises. Ninja Gaiden was devoid of any character, the graphis were very lifeless, the game-play involved running along walls and the different camera angles made the experience. What is interesting is that lately, reviewers began to say that Ninja Gaiden wasn’t really up to much, but the writers loved it anyway as game’s review was 5 pages long. The game-play of the recent games of the series has changed a lot and the game-play is way better than the original.

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy is one of the most overrated video games of all time as Gamespy shares my opinion naming it the seventh most overrated game of all time. I don’t say that the game is that bad, but there is a weak plot and lame characters which I personally do not like. The stories in the latest games are without any ingenuity since Final Fantasy IX from 2000, which is the least essential of PS1-era Fantasy’s.

Diablo 3

Diablo 3

Diablo 3

Diablo 3 has been sold in millions of copies and broke many records, but the only broke thing was the game. The game lacks of interesting offline play and the long slog through the normal difficulty to get to any gameplay target is pointless. The simple act of chopping, zapping and thwipping countless monsters, barrels and vases got us bored very quickly, but what exactly makes the game interesting? Well, I don’t know really, you better ask someone who has spent more than just 2 boring hours of it.
